If you are visiting or new to the Advent, we hope that you will feel welcome and at home. Please fill out a visitor’s/newcomer’s card so that we will have a record of your visit here and can keep in touch.
All persons baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit are invited to the Altar to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you wish to receive a blessing, come to the Altar and cross your arms over your chest.

Community Groups at the Advent are the best way for new and long-standing parishioners to meet and come to know true Christian fellowship. We have four community groups centered in four areas in and around the Boston area: Beacon Hill, Brookline, the North Shore, and Cambridge. These groups are designed so members and potential members can simply get to know one another better and enjoy time for friendship, education, recreation, or meet for prayer. The groups decide for themselves how they want to spend their time together.
We are gathering the members of all four groups this afternoon in Moseley Hall for a light dinner and to “kick off” the fall season. Everyone who is currently in one of the community groups and everyone who would like to be in a community group should come to that gathering at 5:00 pm. We will hear what the community groups are doing and what they would like to do over the next.
The Tuesday Evening Community Supper could use some extra volunteers these last few weeks of summer as many of the “usual suspects” are away. Please email Barbara Boles at firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
The Wednesday morning Bible study group is currently reading the Epistles to the Philippians and Colossians. That’s at 10 a.m. in the Library.
Schedule Change: On Thursday, September 6, the mid-day Mass will be moved to 11 am, in the Lady Chapel as usual, to accommodate the meeting of the New England Chapter of the Society of Catholic Priests hosted by the Advent. (The meeting format is Mass followed by lunch and discussion.) Fr Nathan Humphrey, familiar to many and a SCP member, will celebrate . Any members of the parish who wish to attend the Mass are welcome to do so.
(In case you’re wondering: The Society of Catholic Priests (SCP) is a growing society of men and women serving as priests, deacons, and consecrated religious throughout the Anglican Communion. The Society aims to promote priestly spirituality and catholic evangelism. https://www.thescp.org/).
Church School Classes and Registration! Our Church School classes are beginning for another year on Sunday, September 9th. We are trying to get all of the pre-school children, grade-school children, and middle-school and high-school students registered for the Church School. Please see Meg Nelson, our Coordinator for Ministry to Children, in Moseley Hall so a registration can be completed for your child or children, and watch for more information coming very soon! We’re are looking forward to a full, exciting and active year in our Church School.
Attention singers! The fall season is rapidly approaching, with the first rehearsal of the Advent’s famed Parish Choir taking place next month—Wednesday evening, September 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Choir Room. This ensemble provides music for the 9:00 Sung Mass on a regular basis and for several evening services throughout the year. The choir meets mostly on Sunday mornings an hour before the mass, but has a full choir rehearsal three times a year on a Wednesday evening. If you wish to join them to sing masterworks of the Renaissance and Anglican traditions, please contact Mark Dwyer after Mass, or call at 617-523-2377 extension 141 or at email@example.com for more information.
