If you are visiting or new to the Advent, we hope that you will feel welcome and at home. Please fill out a visitor’s/newcomer’s card so that we will have a record of your visit here and can keep in touch.

All persons baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit are invited to the Altar to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you wish to receive a blessing, come to the Altar and cross your arms over your chest.

A Reminder:  There is only one Mass at 11:00 am next Sunday, Christmas Day, and the following Sunday, January 1.

The schedule of Christmas services is below.

The Annual Parish Meeting is Sunday, January 29, 2017.  Contributions to the 2016 Annual Report must be in the Parish Office no later than 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 6, 2017.  All heads of committees or groups are expected to submit a report.  Electronic submission is preferred.

Giving Opportunity.  If anyone is looking to make year-end, charitable donations, our friends at Common Cathedral hope you’ll consider supporting their excellent work with Boston’s un-housed community.  Common Cathedral has a generous donor who will match donations to Common Cathedral up to $5,000.  It would be wonderful if some Advent parishioners felt called to make this $5,000 offer swell to $10,000.  It’s as easy as pledging online at www.commoncathedral.org/donations or by sending a check, before December 31, to PO Box 51003 Boston, MA 02205.  Donations must arrive by December 31 to take advantage of this matching gift.

Volunteers Needed—Help the Advent serve dinner at Epiphany School on Thursday, January 12.  One way the Advent loves our city is by volunteering to serve dinner at the Epiphany School, an independent, tuition-free middle school in Dorchester for children of economically disadvantaged families from Boston neighborhoods.  The Advent will serve dinner to the kids at Epiphany on Thursday January 12, and we need 4-7 volunteers to be there from 3:45–6:00 pm.  Dinnertime at Epiphany is a wonderful opportunity for students, families, and volunteers to work together to create a nutritious meal.  Please contact Kara Rodgers (kara.rodgers@gmail.com) if you can serve.

The Boston Harbor Deanery will be holding a Stop Hunger Now event hosted by the Church of the Advent on Saturday, January 28, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm.

What is Stop Hunger Now?  Stop Hunger Now is driven by the vision of a world without hunger. Their mission is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable people and creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.  To that end packages of dry food, enough for one meal, are assembled by volunteers and are then sent to places where there is a shortage of food and people are hungry.

Between 2 and 3 volunteers will be needed from our church to participate in the event which will be run by a team from Stop Hunger Now.  Those who have done this before say that it is quite a lot of fun.  There will be music and perhaps even dancing !  Please volunteer to help package meals and be able to arrive 15 minutes prior to the event.  To signup please contact Advent’s seminarian Eric Fialho at efialho@eds.edu.

The Vestry has designated offerings at the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund for Ministry of the Parish.  If you use pledge envelopes, be aware that gifts in the special “Christmas Day” envelope will not be applied to your annual pledge unless you indicate “2016 Pledge” on the check.

Discount Vouchers for the Boston Common Garage are available for $9.00 each from Nola Sheffer. You can find her between the 9:00 and 11:15 Masses at the Coffee Hour or Entr’acte. The vouchers can be used after 4:00 pm weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Questions? email: nsheffer@newview.org.

At the Advent Book Store!  Advent Calendars, Christmas Cards, Christmas music; 2017 Ordo Kalendars and Pocket Diaries; all available at our Book Store. Also available are the limited edition prints “In Boston as it is in Heaven” which support the Advent in Mission.

Boston Print for Sale to Support the Advent in Mission—Our friends at Old Try (www.theoldtry.com) have created a limited edition vintage letterpress print, now on sale in our bookstall to support the Advent in Mission.  The beautiful print reads “In Boston as it is in Heaven” (a prayer we pray implicitly every time we say the Our Father), and depicts the skyline as it appears in our city seal.  The limited edition prints are $39 and supplies are limited—so buy one (or three!) soon as a prayer for our city and to raise funds for missions at the Advent.

Vestry Nominations.  Please note that several members of the Vestry, a Treasurer and a Clerk will be elected at the Annual Meeting to be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017.  It is not too early to think about members of the Parish whom you think would serve effectively on the Vestry.  A Nominating Committee consisting of Jack Gurnon, Thatcher Gearhart, Kara Rodgers, Father Warren, and the Wardens, Tom Brown and Paul Roberts, is ready to receive the names of those whom you wish to nominate.  Please speak to them beforehand to make sure that they are willing to run.  Copies of qualifications and a job description for a member of the Vestry may be found at the rear of the Church and on a poster in the lobby.

If you requested pledge envelopes on your pledge card, they can be found at the back of the Church in (it is devoutly to be hoped) alphabetical order. If you asked for envelopes and they are not there, please call the Parish Office (617-523-2377 ext 122, email: office@theadventboston.org.
