The flowers at the High Altar are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of William C. Dials II.

If you are visiting or new to the Advent, we hope that you will feel welcome and at home. Please fill out a visitor’s/newcomer’s card so that we will have a record of your visit here and can keep in touch.

All persons baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit are invited to the Altar to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you wish to receive a blessing, come to the Altar and cross your arms over your chest.

Compline at the Advent—Tonight at 8 pm—join us for the ancient liturgy of Compline, preceded by Lucernarium, an evening service of lamp-lighting.  We pray Compline on the second Sunday of every month at 8:00 pm in the nave.  There is particular need for parishioners familiar with liturgical practice at the Advent to participate, so if you are interested in helping celebrate this service of prayer before bedtime in the custom of early Christian monasticism, please contact Fr Hanson ( or Fr Wood (

Volunteers are needed to organize the Reception following the Mass and Procession on Corpus Christi, Thursday, June 15.  This is our last big celebration before the summer and one at which we have many visitors and guests.  The Reception should match the event—plentiful and fun!  And we will need folks to organize and help.  Please speak to Fr Warren or Fr Wood if you are willing to be a part of this.

Eric Fialho—From Seminarian to Pastoral Assistant—We are excited to announce that Eric Fialho, who served as our seminarian for the past year before graduating from Episcopal Divinity School, has accepted a call to serve another year in our parish as a Pastoral Assistant beginning in September.  Most of Eric’s work will be around mission and outreach, so part of the funding for his new position will come from our mission budget—which means we’re looking for ways to supplement our remaining budget for mission this year.  Can you help?  One way is to buy one of the remaining limited edition vintage letterpress prints now on sale in our bookstall to support the Advent in Mission. The beautiful print reads “In Boston as it is in Heaven” (a prayer we pray implicitly every time we say the Our Father), and depicts the skyline as it appears in our city seal.  The limited edition prints are $39.  Buy one (or three!) as a prayer for our city and to raise more funds for missions at the Advent.

I publish the Banns of Marriage between Kelly Elaine Warwick of Salem, Massachusetts & Montgomery Link of Boston, Massachusetts.  If any of you know just cause why they may not be joined together in Holy Matrimony, you are bidden to declare it.  This is the second time of asking.—Father Wood

Processiontide Concludeth!  This year the Feast of Corpus Christi is this Thursday, June 15.  Here at the Advent it will be celebrated at 6:30 pm with a Solemn Mass, Procession on Mount Vernon Street, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by a festive reception.  Corpus Christi’s Mass with Procession-Around-the-Neighborhood and Benediction includes music for Brass Quartet and music by Renaissance Spaniards Lobo and Guerrero.  The guest preacher will be the Rev’d Jay Weldon, Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Waban.

Urban IV, 1264, instituting the Feast of Corpus Christi
in the Bull Transiturus:

The Faithful will come eagerly to the Churches, and then the Clergy and People will rejoice together.  They will raise songs of praise;  and the hearts and voices of all, their mouths and lips, shall sound forth the Joy of Salvation.  Faith shall sing!  Hope shall dance!  Charity exult!  Devotions praise!  Purity sing, and Virtue be celebrated!

Picnic!  Picnic!  Picnic!  Next Sunday, June 18, we will have a summertime picnic in the Garden following the 9 am and 11:15 am Masses.  The Advent will provide hot dogs with all the trimmings and drinks of various kinds.  We ask members of the Parish to bring hors d’oeuvres, salads, desserts.  Pray for good weather and feel free to dress appropriately.

Advance notice of . . . a Pilgrimage to Greece.  A trip is being organized to take place next Spring, sometime after Easter.  This will complement our first two pilgrimages: to the Holy Land, to the Pauline sites in Turkey.  Now we will go to the New Testament sites in Greece.  Among the places visited will be Thessaloniki, Philippi, Meteora, Delphi, Olympia, Corinth, Mycenae, Nauplion, and, of course, Athens.  As soon as the details are certain, they will be announced.

Advent Community Supper:  we have a book table, which our guests really enjoy, but some of the past suppliers have dried up.  If you have paperback books or magazines you’d like to contribute, that would be a big help!  Most of our guests are men, and prefer things like Time, and suspense/mysteries, but all contributions gladly received.  And, if you’ve thought about trying out volunteering, summer is a good time, as we lose our MIT students and regulars to vacation time. Contact Barbara Boles,

Volunteers needed for Advent service at B-SAFE in Dorchester:  Would you like to help provide a safe, fun, and healthy experience for kids in Boston this summer?

Our parish has signed up to provide lunch for the kids and staff at the B-SAFE (Bishops’ Summer Academic and Fun Enrichment) Program at the Epiphany School in Dorchester from July 31-August 3.  We need some volunteers for 1) food prep, 2) meal service, or 3) reading with kids (ages 7-12).  You can help on any single day, or for all 4 days.  Food prep will be at the Advent (9-11 am), and the other two activities will be at the Epiphany School (11:30 am-1:30 pm, accessible by Red Line T).  I was a Site Director at this program last year, and can attest to how great a service this can be for kids and adults alike!  To volunteer to work on this project or help coordinate it, contact Steve Armandt (, 617-943-8355).

The flowers that adorn the Church are funded entirely by donations from members and friends of the Parish.  There are openings for flower memorials or thanksgivings for the High Altar for Sundays, June 25, July 2, July 16 and July 23.  If you are interested, please call Blenda Jeffry at 978-443-3519 (

Discount Vouchers for the Boston Common Garage are available for $9.00 each from Deacon Daphne or Nola Sheffer. You can find them between the 9:00 and 11:15 Masses at the Coffee Hour or Entr’acte. The vouchers can be used after 4:00 pm weekdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Questions? email:
