We remember in our prayers this morning those who were wounded or lost their lives in the Battle of the Coral Sea from May 4 to May 8, 1942, seventy-six years ago. In particular we remember Gilbert Corwin Hoover, whose heroic actions saved many lives in that battle; he was a close friend of John Higgins’ father, the Rt. Rev. John Seville Higgins, Bishop of Rhode Island.

The Walk for Hunger is today! and Team Advent thanks all those who have supported the walkers, both financially and in spirit. Some of them are off to walk all 20 miles, so please keep them in your prayers today! As of Friday, Team Advent was within $3000 of its goal of $10,000, and donations are always welcome. Use this link to donate! Many thanks !

“Procession-Tide” Beginneth! This coming Thursday, May 10, is the Feast of the Ascension. A Procession & Solemn Mass with orchestra will be celebrated at 6:30 pm, followed by a festive reception. The music of the Mass is the Missa Sancta no 1, the “Freischützmesse” of Carl Maria von Weber, for chorus, soli and orchestra.

The guest preacher will be the Rev’d Marc G. Eames, Rector of the Church of the Advent, Medfield. Fr Eames is a former parishioner at the Church of the Advent and was sponsored for ordination by this parish. We welcome him.

First Communion Class – First Communions will be on the Feast of Pentecost, May 20, this year. Classes to prepare young people in the parish to make their First Communion will be Saturday, May 12, from 11:00 am to 11:45 am in the Rectory, and Saturday, May 19, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am in the Church. At least one parents should plan to attend the class alongside the child.

For parents considering whether their child is ready for this step in faith development, here are some guidelines to keep in mind:  Your child must wish on their own to begin receiving Communion.  You must agree that this is appropriate, and you should feel that on some level your child understands the meaning of Holy Communion. We’re not talking Thomas Aquinas here; rather that your child, through emotion or intuition or what has been learned in the Church School, has a grasp of the meaning of the mystery of the Sacrament of the Altar.  If you or your child have any questions, please speak to the any of the clergy, who will be very happy to explain.  If you wish your child to be part of the classes, speak to Father Warren. To sign up for the class, RSVP to

Softball, Anyone? In this season of celebrating the Resurrection, we want to see if we can breathe new life into the Advent’s softball team. Are there two persons willing to manage and coach our softball team? If you’re being called to this good work, please see Father James. If we have two persons step forward to lead the team and some parishioners willing to play on the team, then we can take the field this spring and summer.
