The flowers at the High Altar are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Rosalinda Kiernan.

If you are visiting or new to the Advent, we hope that you will feel welcome and at home. Please fill out a visitor’s/newcomer’s card so that we will have a record of your visit here and can keep in touch.

All persons baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit are invited to the Altar to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you wish to receive a blessing, come to the Altar and cross your arms over your chest.

amanda-grant-rose-bioOur guest preacher this morning is Amanda Grant-Rose, Executive Director of Common Cathedral.  Ms Grant-Rose is a Massachusetts native.  Daughter of a Presbyterian minister and a social worker, she has long been drawn to working, with great energy and compassion, on behalf of others.  As an educator, Amanda has worked as a special education teacher, has developed individual education plans for students in Tanzania, and has taught masters level classes in special education, mental disabilities and learning disabilities.  As a social worker, Amanda has provided support to at-risk children in foster care, has developed and implemented comprehensive social services through an urban, faith-based hunger program, and has served as a mental health specialist. Amanda most recently served as Director of Marketing and Programs at Lift Up Africa, where she was in charge of marketing strategy, fundraising, relationship management, and donor development.  Amanda holds degrees from the University of Arizona (BA, Special Education); the University of Pennsylvania (MSW); and Harvard University (Master of Education in International Education Policy).  She is a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in South Boston and is married with 2 children.

Entr’acte This Morning—Following the 9:00 am Sung Mass, Fr Hanson will begin a four part Entr’acte series on the Trinitarian Controversies which took place during the first four centuries of the Church’s history.  It was in these fascinating discussions and arguments that the Christian understanding of the nature of the Godhead was hammered out, and so they were crucial for the subsequent development of the teaching of the Church.  Fr Hanson will continue this series next Sunday, November 20 and then on Sundays, December 4 and 11.

THIS WEEK

Advent Playgroups are Back—Thursdays & Fridays, 10 am-Noon in Moseley Hall—The sunny downstairs space of the church is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am-Noon for local families.  We haul out toys and lay down rugs for babies, toddlers, parents, and nannies to enjoy, and it’s a great space to meet other families and keep warm through the winter months!  If you’re able to help set up and attend the Playgroups, please contact frwood@theadventboston.org.

Because of other events and holidays, there will be no Play Group on Friday, November 18, Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25.

This Saturday!!!  Parish Workday on Saturday, November 19.  Interested?  Please contact Fr Wood or Deacon Noyes.

COMING UP!

Confirmation Classes Rescheduled for Next Spring // The Advent offers confirmation classes every year for those who wish to be confirmed or received into the Anglican Communion. The next confirmation services are in the spring, and in light of the relatively few sign-ups for classes that were to begin this fall, we’ve decided to run the classes on Wednesdays in Lent as we’ve done for the past few years. Adults and teens who are interested should still email frwood@theadventboston.org for more information and to sign up for a class.

Donate your lightly worn, clean coat to our coat drive, to benefit Friends of the Children, a nonprofit agency serving Boston’s most vulnerable children by breaking the cycle of poverty. Questions? See Deacon Daphne. Thanks to all who have donated coats—your generosity will make a difference this winter (which seems to have arrived rather early!)

The Stewardship Committee thanks all who have made a pledge so far.  If you have not yet pledged, please do so soon.

If you did not receive a 2017 stewardship packet in the mail, there are Stewardship brochures and pledge cards on the tables at the rear of the Church.  And you can pledge on line by going to the parish website www.theadventboston.org and clicking the “Pledge Online” button..
