THIS WEEK

The Parish Office will be closed Monday, September 3, for Labor Day.  The regular schedule will be observed for Morning Prayer at 9:00 am, Low Mass at 12:15 pm.  Evening Prayer is cancelled.

The Wednesday morning Bible study group is currently reading the Epistles to the Philippians and Colossians. That’s at 10 a.m. in the Library.

Schedule Change:  This Thursday, September 6, the mid-day Mass will be moved to 11 am, in the All Soul’s Chapel (the Crypt), to accommodate the meeting of the New England Chapter of the Society of Catholic Priests hosted by the Advent.  (The meeting format is Mass followed by lunch and discussion.)  Fr Nathan Humphrey, familiar to many and a SCP member, will celebrate.  Any members of the parish who wish to attend the Mass are welcome to do so.

(In case you’re wondering:  The Society of Catholic Priests (SCP) is a growing society of men and women serving as priests, deacons, and consecrated religious throughout the Anglican Communion.  The Society aims to promote priestly spirituality and catholic evangelism. https://www.thescp.org/

COMING UP

We begin our new church school year next Sunday!

Commissioning of Church School Teachers—It is a special calling to teach, care for, and support our Church School children.  Next Sunday at the 9:00 am Mass, after the Post-Communion Prayer, we will commission all the church school teachers, caregivers, and volunteers for our 2018-2019 Church School year.

Backpack Blessing—Next Sunday, September 9, at the 9:00 am Mass:   One of the best ways to mark the beginning of a new school year is have your backpack blessed.  The backpack, or anything a student needs daily like a pencil box or lunch box, is offered at the Altar representing all the learning, school friendships, and growth our students will experience this year.  The students can be from pre-school to graduate school.  All should come to the crossing after the Commissioning of the Church School Teachers, have their backpacks blessed, and know that God will be watching over them and they will have the prayers of our parish family with them all through the school year.

Church School Registration—We hope to get all of the pre-school children, grade-school children, and middle-school and high-school students registered for the Church School.  Please see Meg Nelson, our Coordinator for Ministry to Children, in Moseley Hall so a registration can be completed for your child or children, or you can register online!  We’re are looking forward to a full, exciting and active year in our Church School.

Attention singers! The fall season is rapidly approaching, with the first rehearsal of the Advent’s famed Parish Choir taking place on Wednesday evening, September 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Choir Room. This ensemble provides music for the 9:00 Sung Mass on a regular basis and for several evening services throughout the year.  The choir meets mostly on Sunday mornings an hour before the mass, but has a full choir rehearsal three times a year on a Wednesday evening. If you wish to join them to sing masterworks of the Renaissance and Anglican traditions, please contact Mark Dwyer after Mass, or call 617-523-2377 extension 141 or at dwyer@theadventboston.org for more information.
